In furtherance of its project objectives and with the intent of promoting art and craftsmanship as vehicles for expression, the EU-COM European Circular Online Museum project is pleased to announce the EU-COM Art Contest.
Article 1 – Purpose
The purpose of this contest, as outlined in this Regulation, is to raise awareness about sustainability, recycling, and upcycling of materials, using creative art as a means for education and dissemination. This competition is supported by the European community within the framework of the EU-COM project, encouraging participants to create innovative works that transform materials with a history into artistic forms, thereby contributing to environmental conservation and fostering a cultural revolution.
Article 2 – Theme and Sections
The central theme of the EU-COM Art Contest is “Creative Recycling and Upcycling.” The contest offers two sections:
- Art: this section includes paintings, sculptures, photographs and video productions adhering to the technical specifications outlined in Article 4.
- Eco-Design: this category encompasses works characterized by repeatability in small series, utility, and functionality. Eligible works may pertain to home furnishings, street furniture, clothing, fashion accessories, and consumable objects.
Musical and written productions, such as tales and poetry, are not eligible.
Article 3 – Participants
The EU-COM Art Contest is open to individuals aged 18 and above, as well as collective teams. There are no nationality restrictions, except that participants must be able to travel within the European community if selected as winners. In the case of collectives, a designated representative must be identified, responsible for all aspects of contest participation.
Article 4 – Technical Features of Artworks
Participants may submit a single published or unpublished work created using recycled and reused materials or with a focus on such materials. The technique is unrestricted, and the use of colors and assembly parts is authorized.
Submissions take place online using the project platform, requiring the upload of photographs or scans in JPEG format with a resolution of 300 dpi and a maximum size of 5 MB (minimum size 1 MB). Video productions must be in MP4 format and not exceed a duration of 20 minutes.
Article 5 – Terms and Methods of Participation
Participation in the EU-COM Art Contest is free.
Submissions can be uploaded from February 28th, 2024, to April 30th, 2024.
The deadline for submissions is 23:00 on April 30th, 2024.

The organizers reserve the right to postpone the deadline, with any changes communicated on the website www.circularmuseum.eu and EU-COM social pages.
Article 6 – Documentation Required for Participation
The necessary documentation includes:
- Registration form
- Declaration of physical and intellectual ownership of the work
- Consent to the processing of personal data
- One color photo of the artwork (JPG format, resolution 300 dpi, weight from 1 to 5 MB). For video production, a screenshot can be chosen
- One color photo (JPG format) portraying a detail of the artwork.
- One optional photo (JPG format) portraying a moment of the creative process.
- One optional video describing the creative process
- Description of the artwork (title, dimensions, technique, materials, and year of execution) in English or one of the participating languages – German, French, Italian
- Personal photo of the participant or collective (JPG format)
- In the case of a collective, a representative designation is recommended by completing the dedicated form.

Article 7 – Exclusion Criteria
Automatic exclusion applies to applications submitted after the expiry date, artworks that do not meet technical specifications, those offensive or promoting advertising, politics, religion, or violating third-party proprietary rights.
Article 8 – Jury and Selections
An international Jury of six members with expertise in artistic design and environmental fields will analyze and evaluate artworks based on adherence to the theme, innovation, originality, technical execution, creativity, and functionality.
The Jury’s decisions are final and will be uploaded in a dedicated section of the EU COM official website www.circularmuseum.eu
Article 9 – Price
15 artworks (5 per partner country – Germany, France, and Italy) will be selected. Then, a second selection will allow nine artists to participate in an international Art Residency in one of the project’s partner cities (Berlin, Paris, and Potenza). The residency includes involvement in transnational training sessions, workshops, and studio visits, along with the opportunity to exhibit the nine winning works locally during the project’s final event.
All selected works will be featured on the project platform and exhibited internationally in the Art Contest Section.
Winners are not required to reside in any of the aforementioned countries but must be able to travel within the EU.
Results will be announced by July 15th, 2024, and winners will be personally informed via email.
Article 10 – Release
Participation implies unconditional acceptance of all clauses. Participants guarantee the originality of their work, are responsible for sent materials, and grant the EU-COM project rights to use images for publications, exhibitions, and promotional activities. Images will be retained for project phases and catalog creation.
Article 11 – Privacy
Participants authorize the processing of personal data by the EU-COM project under Regulation (EU) No. 2016/679 for database inclusion. By joining the competition, participants consent to data processing for competition-related obligations.
