“I like to make a bridge between the two worlds: the artistic world and the not very artistic, normal social life, and invite artists to do something together… and this makes it a social project.”
Dawid Wojtalewicz is a Polish painter and interdisciplinary artist based in Sopot. He studied painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, graduating with highest distinction and receiving the Hugo Roelandt Award, and also studied in Turnhout, Athens and on Mount Athos. His work has been presented internationally, including at M HKA – Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp, and is held in institutional and private collections, including the National Museum in Gdańsk.
His practice expands painting beyond the traditional studio, combining portraiture, murals, natural pigments, experimental techniques, objects, performance and socially engaged art. Through projects such as the mobile painting studio Portretowóz, ArtDialog and his research into natural pigments and ecological materials, he explores art as a tool for communication, participation and environmental reflection. His work moves between traditional craft and contemporary experimentation, connecting people, places and materials while questioning where and how painting can exist.
