The Spreepark Art Space

The Spreepark Art Space began its activities in March 2024 with the reopening of the historic “Eierhäuschen” building, which now serves as the central venue for exhibitions, residencies, and events. It is part of the larger, long-term transformation of the former Spreepark amusement park into a new public park for Berlin, a process in development since 2016. Its main objective is to serve as an interdisciplinary platform bringing together artists, experts, the public, and the local neighborhood to engage with public space and explore the role of art within. Themes include landscape, nature, architecture, and public space. The Art Space aims to make art an integral and experiential part of the future park through permanent installations, temporary exhibitions, and artistic interventions.

Its primary target groups are artists (through an international residency program), the general public (through free exhibitions and events), the local community (through projects and workshops with local schools), and collaborators such as curators, architects, the Goethe-Institut, and ARCH+.

A significant achievement is the establishment of the international residency program, which has hosted multiple groups of artists conducting research and creating site-specific works. These results are directly linked to specific communities: the local Treptow-Köpenick community, the international artistic community and the “Spreepark” community.

The major future milestone is the full opening of the Spreepark in spring 2027, with art integrated throughout the landscape. Other plans include refurbishing old amusement park attractions through art before 2027 and hosting three to four exhibitions annually at the Eierhäuschen.
