Art as a peaceful protest against consumerism: this is what the works created by the Italian artist Luca Califano (Lu Califano) tell us. Wood, vintage fabrics, metal objects, bones, ropes and chains are transformed into warriors and masks that hybridize tribal aesthetics with cyber punk. The art of recovery is the research that Luca begins to deepen in 2005 with the Mutoid Waste Company in Italy and Spain, a period in which sculptures and assemblages of animals and monsters are born. Over time, form merges with function, leading him to create pieces of craftsmanship and design in which old silverware is transformed into contemporary jewels and everyday objects give life to chandeliers-jugglers and shamans, receiving prizes and special mentions and participating in national and international contests.
