Pierre Kucoyanis
Kucoyanis’ work recalls a universe where the past-future dichotomy evokes the aesthetics of early modernity, making his pieces both seductive and humorous. In addition to being art objects, their functionality as lighting elements adds relational and high design value to his production.
I graduated from both the Beaux-Arts de Paris and the University of Fine Arts Paris VIII. Upcy- cling is at the core of my creative process, as I believe in giving new life to old materials, finding beauty and meaning in what others might overlook. I transform discarded objects into playful, imaginative creations that evoke the charm of 1950s science fiction. I craft flying or rolling machines from vintage motorcycle parts, vacuum cleaners, and ob- jects reminiscent of childhood dreams. These pieces are not just whimsical; they pay tribute to post-war industrial design. Upcycling allows me to engage with the history of these objects, respecting their original purpose while re- imagining them in new, unexpected forms. As both a creator and a painter, I’ve always balanced my artistic pursuits with my role as an art teacher, leading projects with students in France and the United States. In addition to painting, I’m the creator of Motor-lights, unique lamps inspired by my love for motorcycles and jazz. My work is a celebration of creativity and invention, blending nostalgia with joyful improvisation.
