Laura Bertil
Bertil’s work radiates purity, a tactile image inviting touch and visual discovery. Her textile painting cele- brates the material’s flatness and tells per- sonal stories, balanc- ing sharp contours with soft textures to create synesthetic landscapes. Stitching used fabrics brings physical intimacy, contrasting with a sense of iconic dis- tance.
I’m a French multidisciplinary artist who graduated from the Gobelins school in graphic design and motion design. Since 2020, I have been exploring the world of upcycling through my clothing brand Tuktuk Club, transforming second-hand pieces into unique and colorful creations. In 2023, I switched to a new form of expression, using recycled fabrics and clothing to create vibrant and narrative textile paintings. My work is a fusion between art, fashion, and my ecological commitment, reflecting a dreamlike universe composed of characters, objects, and plants. This poetic combination creates a childlike and colorful style.

Artwork Description:
In the 1900s, on the island of Réunion, the southern region was plagued by horrific crimes steeped in black magic.
Three men – Saint-Ange, Fontaine, and Sitarane – three names, but only one has remained in local history: Sitarane.
This self-portrait brings to light the dark and esoteric side of this lega- cy connected to my origins. For this canvas, I cut up my pink gingham dress, which I wore in Réunion in 2020, and repurposed it as a pair of pants in the artwork.
