Ayesha Prieto

AvaCaxi, also known as Ayesha Prieto, is a Mexican street artist and mural painter currently residing in France. Over the past decade, she has developed a distinctive style that blends cosmic themes with vibrant street art. Her work often explores the interplay between nature and urban environments, as seen in projects like “The Struggle of Nature to Survive” (2014) and “Ancestral Permaculture” (2014). AvaCaxi actively collaborates with other artists, such as Kzper – BPM, and engages in various artistic residencies, including one in Brazil. Her art has been showcased in exhibitions like “Sœurcières et autres monstres féministes,” highlighting her versatility across painting, engraving, collage, and poetry.

Her work wit textiles enhances environmental consciousness by showcasing the creative potential of upcycling discarded materials into versatile, functional accessories. By repurposing an old overall, blouse, and batik fabric, the project highlights the value of extending the life cycle of textiles that might otherwise go to waste. Used material, technique, support:

All materials come from sources of recycling: blue jeans overalls, cotton blouses, batik painted fabric. They are joined on a sewing machine, and details and buttons are sewn by hand. The bag transforms, adapting to different needs, when the weight to be carried is important the straps return to their position allowing the bag to be carried like a backpack.

Backpack and handbag made from an overall and batik fabric recovered from a local sewing market. The transformation of the overall, an old blouse and recovered batik textile, allowed the creation of a backpack that transforms into a handbag and a top-bag, three modalities for different types of weight. The overalls straps adapts to carry as a top-bag with an ergonomic advantage.
