Used material, technique, support:

The artist used a white porcelain coffee cup with a stand by KPM (Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur – Royal Porcelain Factory in Berlin), purchased from eBay. The rim of the cup was hammered with a small metal hammer, a gift from the artist’s father many years ago. Two red sugar cubes were also used; the artist took two cubes of sugar left unused from a café and painted them red with a borrowed spray.

Artwork Description:

As a Polish artist living in Germany, I work with history. Objects permanently accumulate the memory of the passing years, giving a physical testimony to historical trauma, to political transformations. German „Verlust” means „loss”,„Lust” means „desire”. The broken cup is a bittersweet symbol of what is broken and lost in German-Polish history and relations. This reused and artistically transformed object, is to remind us not to make the same mistakes, as history likes to repeat. Will we regain what we have lost? Will history repeat itself? One of two cups from the verLUST series. The second cup will be exhibited at the exhibition “Freedom, Equality, Solidarity” (Stadtmuseum, 2024).
