Quando la luce lascia il posto al buio

Riccardo Pacitti

Recovering old wood from the sea and giving it new life is a popular practice, but the composition of the work demonstrates a knowledge of Fauvist landscapes and the emotional power of colour. The artist uses this reclaimed material to evoke strong emotional responses, reflecting the expressive use of colour seen in Fauvism, while highlighting both the natural texture of the wood and its potential for artistic transformation.

Used material, technique, support:

This artwork features driftwood and a reclaimed frame, with dimensions of 52 x 74 x 3 cm. Made solely from painted wooden scraps found on the beach, brought by the sea, the pieces are assembled without altering their forms or colours. The work highlights the uniqueness and irrepeatability of each fragment, reflecting its past history and its connection to the environment where it was discovered.

Artwork Description:

The artwork represents a fleeting, ethereal moment of a natural landscape at sunset, transformed into a “disassembled landscape” where both time and space are expanded. The frame, part of the artwork itself, serves as a stabilizing force, capturing a precise moment like a camera. The piece emphasizes how the observer’s perspective plays a key role in perceiving the landscape, offering each viewer a unique, subjective emotional experience of a content that is objectively conveyed by the artist.
